Aegea and Eco Invest Brasil
Aegea accessed its first blended finance structure under the Eco Invest Brasil Program, an initiative led by Brazil’s National Treasury to mobilize capital for sustainable investments. By 2026, the Company had raised BRL 1.8 billion, with funds disbursed by different financial institutions to accelerate investments in sanitation infrastructure and amplify the positive impacts of this transformation.
The transaction expands long-term financing alternatives for the water and sanitation sector by combining catalytic funding and private capital in a structure that helps lower financing costs and create more competitive conditions for investment.
The proceeds are allocated to new investments in water supply and wastewater collection and treatment systems, effluent management, and climate-resilient infrastructure. The projects encompass the expansion and improvement of services across 188 municipalities in eight Brazilian states, benefiting 22.5 million people and targeting the creation of approximately 7,000 direct and indirect jobs.
The blended finance structure combines different sources of capital and helps overcome traditional barriers to financing infrastructure projects. This model creates more favorable conditions to accelerate investments in sanitation, including more vulnerable regions, supporting progress toward universal access to water supply and wastewater services in Brazil. Investments associated with these transactions are expected to be carried out within 24 months.
The financed projects have the potential to generate significant environmental, social, and economic impacts by contributing to:
- Expanding access to drinking water and wastewater collection and treatment services;
- Reducing the discharge of untreated wastewater into the environment;
- Improving the quality of surface water bodies;
- Strengthening water security;
- Enhancing the resilience of infrastructure and communities to the impacts of climate change;
- Fostering job creation and income generation in the regions served.
The financing structure incorporates environmental and social requirements, an independent external assessment through a Second Party Opinion (SPO), and periodic reporting on environmental, social, and economic impact indicators.
Aegea’s participation in the Eco Invest Brasil Program reinforces the role of sustainable finance as a key instrument for expanding investment capacity in infrastructure. By channeling long-term capital into projects that deliver positive environmental and social impacts, the initiative helps accelerate universal access to water and sanitation services while fostering the development of more resilient, inclusive, and sustainable cities.
